THE OBJECTIVES OF THE COMENIUS PROGRAMME
• improving the quality and increase the volume of mobility involving staff and pupils
• improving the quality and increasing the volume of partnerships between schools
• encouraging the learning of modern foreign languages
Evaluation…
• The evaluation of the progress will start from the very beginning and it will be a permanent process throughout the two years taking into consideration the aims, the concrete objectives, the actions carried out and the results.
• At the beginning of the first year a survey will be conducted to identify the pupils’ expectations and the results they would like to obtain., pupils’ knowledge of the participating countries will be assessed through questionnaires and quizzes.
• The result of the survey and of the questionnaires/quizzes will be sent to the partner schools, analyzed and discussed.
• During the year grids, rubrics will be used to evaluate pupils’ interest and involvement in the actions of the project, pupils’ attitude towards the cooperation and the exchange with the partner schools.
• Pupils’ motivation, attitude towards language learning, their progress in the acquisition/consolidation of a BICS ( Basic Interpersonal Communicative Skills ) competence and CALP ( Cognitive Academic Language Proficiency ) competence will be described and assessed by the foreign language teachers through rubrics; at the same time pupils will register and assess the progress achieved in the foreign languages on their European Language Portfolio reflecting on the cultural experience done.
• The subject teachers involved in the partnership, will measure the competences reached by the pupils in their subjects and will register the changes carried out by the project.
• As for the teachers involved, questionnaires will be conducted to evaluate the impact of the project inside the school community ( capacity of cooperation, capacity to involve and motivate pupils, consolidation of the curricular skills, acquisition of competences ).
• Meetings of teachers, associations involved will be aimed to analyze and evaluate the steps of the project.
• The participating schools will set up a blog where all the subjects involved will be able to participate, inform, discuss, register all the activities carried out.
Dissemination…
• In order to disseminate the results the experience and products ( amongst the participating institutions, other institutions and local communities), the participating schools are going to organize:
• School displays;
• school sales/fairs;
• “ open classes”;
• Blog, school web site;
• other particular event of each school….
• The participating schools will also disseminate the results, experiences and products by presenting the articles and information about the project in the local/teacher press…
Role and task…..
The role of the coordinator school is to:
• set the activities and divide them among the participating schools, after the partners agreement;
• take care of the realization of the activities and keep on schedule by all participating schools;
• take care of frequent, successful and eventual transfer of information between the participating schools.
The role of all the participating schools is to:
• realise the aims defined in the project;
• prepare, organise and carry out all the planned actions according to the dates given in the project calendar;
• inform all the participants about the course, results and impressions of the individual project activities by sending the collected information onto the web and the web pages especially prepared for this aim;
• send a report on each project activity to all the participating schools; the report should include the date of the realization, the title, the number of the participants, the description of the activities with the photos, CD recordings, brochures, the small objects made by the pupils, as well as the list of at least 10 words or phrases in the mother tongue connected to the activity.
Communication…..
• The participating schools are going to communicate systematically by the means of email, MSN Messenger, blog, faxes, video-conference where available.
Pupils and teachers will widely use information and communication technology.
• the use of computer programmes for the text edition and photos processing ( word, excel, power point, photo story, mediator presentation );
• the use of Hot Potatoes and Google Earth to locate the partners’ schools;
• the use of Internet aimed at finding information and photos required by the actions carried out in the project;
• the use of e-mails, blog, MSN Messenger, and video conference as the main means of communication between the participating schools and the institutions involved in the project;
• the use of the camera in the recording of the project activities and the use of the webcam to broadcast some activities.
Active involvement…..
• Each of the participating schools is going to create the project team consisting of both students and teachers. The project team will be divided into five groups responsible for certain areas of the project such as: artistic and crafts activities, photo and video activities, text and translation activities, theatre and musical activities and computer studies activities concerning the blog, web pages.
• Each group will have a student-leader and a teacher responsible for the group. These groups are going to organise the project work of all the other students at school. They will also keep in touch with the similar groups in the other participating schools. The groups will meet regularly to decide on the details of each of the activities and communicate the ideas to the participating schools. All the decisions about the actions are going to be made after consulting the students taking part in the project. The students will have a chance to express their opinions about the project in the questionnaires and during the project meetings.
• Two pupils ( one boy and one girl ) from each country will participate with their teachers to the international meetings; they will be “the ambassadors “ of their countries, having the opportunity to meet their partners, exchange opinions directly and then share their experience with their peers when they are back at home.
Intercultural dialogue
• The intercultural dialogue is meant as a sensitization of the positive relationship with other people and as affirmation of a culture of respect,, solidarity, pacific leaving.
• The intercultural dialogue will be the educational aim through which the curricula and the methodologies of the different subjects will be reread and reinterpreted.
• It won’t be confined to represent the most exterior aspects of the countries ( food, costumes, dances…) which, although important, risk maintaining alive prejudices and stereotypes; instead it will privilege the education to the active citizenship, to the equality of rights and it intends to be the mean of communication among the different cultures, able to transform the didactic and experiential reality of the subjects involved in the project.
Promotion of early language…..
• Language learning and linguistic diversity will be promoted as expressed in the European Action Plan 2004-2006.
• The foreign languages will be consolidated in all the abilities throughout these activities:
• Interaction: video-conference with the participating schools;
• Speaking: recordings on CDs to be sent to partners;
• Reading: information found on the web, correspondence, texts sent by the partners;
• Writing: correspondence, short descriptive and narrative texts, script for the drama activities;
• Mediation: abstracts of texts: mother language-foreign language/foreign language-mother language.
• CLIL modules will be carried out with the collaboration of the subject teachers.
• History: a” key event” in the history of one of the participating country; the political institutions of one country; the role of the European Union;
• Geography: geographical/economical characteristics of one country;
• Science: urbanization, environment and pollution.

• Small handicraft objects are sent to partners before Christmas with the description of the instructions in a foreign language and a list of sentences or words in the pupils’ first language.

• Joint CD with legends, myths connected to the local traditions, traditional songs and music.
• Video conference during the “international week”
